Sutton police officers joined in the festivities to celebrate the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Around 1,500 people enjoyed the celebrations aat Overton Park on Monday which lasted throughout the morning, to mark the end of the holy month-long fast of Ramadan.

Families from the borough came together to enjoy the occasion with feasting, music and a range of activities organised in the park. The crowds were delighted when Safer Neighbourhoods Inspector Ian Hicks was persuaded to join the adults and children in a tug of war.

Insp Hicks said: "It was a very warm and good humoured event and everyone had a good time."

The police officers also entertained the children by allowing them to get behind the steering wheel of one of Sutton’s Safer Parks Team 4x4 Mitsubshi Shoguns. They were also treated to a meet and greet opportunity with the local officers and horses from the Met’s mounted branch.

As well as enjoying the fun, the police were on hand to ensure that the event ran smoothly and that there was no parking or traffic issues in the area.
