Sutton council are pushing for people to get on their bikes to lead healthier lives and cut the use of cars.

The drive comes on the back of Cheam’s Joanna Rowsell picking up a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Beginner cycling sessions for cyclists of any age will now be held at Nonsuch Park every Saturday from 2pm.

Cycling sessions will be held at the David Weir leisure centre three times a week, where people can try out two, three and even four-wheeled bikes.

Dr Bike mechanics will be holding events in Sutton, Worcester Park, Carshalton, St Helier, Wallington and Cheam Village. They will be offering safety checks and cycling advice.

Cllr Jill Whitehead, chair of the Environment and Neighbourhoods Committee, said: “Sutton has lots of safe cycle routes and has some of the best green spaces in London to enjoy.

"Whether it’s taking up a new sport, getting more active or leaving the car at home, we want to help as many people as possible to get on their bikes.”
