Epsom Council is considering whether the role of Epsom's business development (BDM) manager should be changed.

Adam Worley, who was appointed as BDM last Summer, left his position at the end of July.

The 27-year-old confirmed in May that he had quit his £43,000 a year job which was due to last for two years and was match-funded by Epsom Council and The Ashley Centre.

It is understood that Mr Worley has taken on a part-time role at the Association of Town and City Management, but speculation mounted over why he had tendered his resignation.

Asked this week whether the recruitment process to find his replacement is underway, a council spokesman said: "The council is currently engaged with members of the business community to ascertain if the requirement has changed, as the economic outlook is different from when we went through this exercise 18 months ago, and following Adam Worley’s departure, to agree new objectives."

Following Mr Worley's resignation, Epsom Residents’ Association councillor Neil Dallen, who represents the town, said he believed frustration at the speed at which the council gets things done had contributed to his decision.

Coun Dallen said: “I know that frustration was a part of it as things go slowly in the council.

"He's keen, enthusiastic, young and wants to get things done and I know council works slowly and even I get frustrated by it.

"It's good news that Adam has a good new job which will raise his profile and bring more career opportunities.  He's very ambitious."
