A campaign group has accused a Sutton MP of behaving like a schoolgirl after he blocked them on Twitter.

Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake denied the Keep Our St Helier Hospital (KOSHH) group access to his Twitter feed, claiming they were misinforming the public.

Mr Brake and KOSHH both support protecting A&E and maternity wards at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals.

But the campaign group have accused Mr Brake of hypocritical voting behaviour, after he supported Clause 119 of the Government’s Care Bill.

The controversial law gives health secretary Jeremy Hunt the power to close down under-performing hospitals with minimal consultation.

Mr Brake has also voted for the Social Care Act 2012 - a bill campaigners claim poses a threat to the Epsom and St Helier sites.

The Carshalton and Wallington MP said Twitter exchanges with representatives of the group have been rudely interjected by other members, and their comments are misleading to the public.

KOSHH media officer Georgia Lewis said: “Mr Brake votes for bills that are not in the best interests of the hospital and refuses to explain himself.

“I think he is being childish and not transparent. Blocking people on Twitter is the behaviour of a little schoolgirl.”

Mr Brake said: “I cut them off on Twitter because they are misinforming the public, it really is simple as that.

Georgia Lewis from KOSHH

“I have justified the way I have voted on numerous occasions, and I am saying now the bills I have supported do not affect the future of services at the hospital.

“KOSHH is actually a political party. They claim not be, but they are registered as one.

“If they don’t regard themselves as a political party anymore, then they need to de-register.”

What do you think about Tom Brake voting for those two bills?
