The mother of a soldier serving with the British army in Syria held a family fun-day to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Tina Young, 56, from Sutton, organised the fundraiser on Sunday as her niece is also in the forces, and her grandfather served as a soldier.

It was held at the Plough Inn in Gander Green Lane, Sutton, and so far roughly £600 has been raised for the charity which supports British soldiers.

There was a BBQ, bouncy castle, tombola and face-painting.

The family part of the day ran from 2pm to 6pm. The adults then enjoyed a karaoke night until the pub closed.

Miss Young said: "I want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped out - to the owners of the pub, and to local businesses who donated goods and their time.

"They made it a really special day. I can’t thank them enough."
