These pictures and video show the moment a car caught fire near a DIY store.

Sutton Guardian:

The incident caused traffic congestion as police blocked off the road while the blaze was being dealt with.

A police spokesman said the car was being transferred from a workshop by a mechanic when it burst into flames.

Anyone who has any information about the car, a blue VW Golf, is asked to contact the police on 101.

Wicked is not on Sutton Common Road.

The pictures you show are on Oldfields Road (Sutton Bye-Pass).

Sutton Guardian - Once again, your usual standard of (not) checking the facts.

Dear LeslieCB, thank you for your comment.

The London Fire Brigade press office told me that the firefighters were called to Sutton Common Road. This is why I wrote that the crews were called to Sutton Common Road, near Wickes, in the original story.

After receiving information from Sutton police I have updated the story.

Best regards,

Was it joyriders or a mechanic driving the car? Headline v Story.

It was my golf and it was being taken to a garage by a mechanic, no joy riders were involved, just glad no one was hurt.

You now say in the report "These pictures and video show the moment a car caught fire...." a DIY store".

No they don't. They show the car already on fire, not the moment it caught fire.

The standard of English and journalism at the Guardian is appalling.

You're getting a bit of a ribbing on this one Robert....

Don't think you need the last line now either .. "Anyone who has any information about the car, a blue VW Golf, is asked to contact the police on 101."

especially as we all know it was Maddyngeorge's car driven by a mechanic!
