A Carshalton-man thought he had woken up 100 years in the future, when a drone came crashing down into his garden.

The sci-fi gadget bounced off of a couple trees on its way back down to earth, after seemingly running out power.

The man, who is in his 20’s, took the lost drone to Sutton police station to help trace its owner.

It crash-landed in the garden in Woodmasterne Road, Carshalton, at 10.35am yesterday.

When tech-savvy police officers removed the machine’s memory card, they saw it had taken off just 26 minutes before its demise.

The card also showed the drone had been flying high above Carshalton capturing high quality recordings of the tops of houses and gardens.

The drone is now in the property store at Sutton police station while officers try to locate its owner.

Det Sgt Ian Bailey, from Sutton CID, said: "This is the first time I've dealt with something like this. It looks like it is someone's new toy and they have been taking it out on test flights. There are no offences connected with this incident and we are taking steps to return the device to its rightful owner."

Is it yours? If so call Sutton police on 101.
