The Minister for Business, Innovation and Skills Nick Boles was in Sutton yesterday, paying a visit to the Sutton College of Learning for Adults (SCOLA).
Mr Boles accompanied the prospective MP for Sutton and Cheam Paul Scully, to hear a talk on how the centre operates and its role in supporting young adults in Sutton.
SCOLA Deputy Principal Jenny Sims spoke about the lack of work opportunities for disabled people and people with learning disabilities across Sutton and nationally.
Mr Boles, who in 2012 was found to have claimed over £670 in expenses to pay for Hebrew lessons, said: “We are really pushing the idea of traineeships, which are 13 week programmes that prepare young people for work.”
Mr Scully, who owns a communications business in Croydon, said: “More job opportunities for people with disabilities is certainly something we need to look at, we need to work out how to create those jobs.”
