As an added twist the competitors wear fancy dress, with players dressed up as everything from wizards to life guards, and even a Jamaican bobsleigh team.

Dodgeball is a team sport where opposing sides chuck balls at each other- if you get hit then you’re out, if you dodge it or catch the ball you stay in.

Outside of the event there were craft ale stalls and other activities for people to enjoy.

The event started at 11am and a winning team were crowned at 5pm.

Along with a prize for the winning team, the best fancy dress award was fiercely contested, this year won by a team dressed as wizards with face masks the size of their upper bodies.

They fought off competition from a group of cavemen and the Cool Runnings team dressed as the Jamaican bob sledders.

Rachel Croshaw, events manager at Mencap, said: “Every year we’re blown away by the popularity of the event.

"This year was the best yet and we can’t thank enough all the participants.

"The money raised will make a real difference to the lives of people with a learning disability."

Since the tournament started it has raised over £100,000 for Mencap.
