A man reported to be in his 80's has been rushed to hospital with head injuries, after being hit by a car in a busy road.

The man, who is also suffering from arm and leg injuries, has been taken to the major trauma centre at St George's Hospital in Tooting.

He was struck down by a Volkswagen Golf at around 12:20 this afternoon.

The London Ambulance Service were called out to Oldfields Road at the junction with Gander Green Lane in Sutton at 12.25pm.

They sent an ambulance crew, an officer, and the London Air Ambulance, and paramedics treated him at the scene.

Sutton police were called out 12.28pm and no arrests have been made.

Transport for London have tweeted the road is now closed.
