The 80-year-old man hit by a car in a busy Sutton road has died, Sutton Police has said.

The pensioner was taken to the major trauma unit at St George's Hospital in Tooting on Tuesday September 9 suffering head, arm and leg injuries following the smash.

He died on Saturday September 13.

Reports at the time of the crash said he was hit by a Volkswagen Golf at around 12:20pm.

The London Ambulance Service was called out to Oldfields Road at the junction with Gander Green Lane in Sutton and the roads closed to traffic as the emergency teams tended to the man.

Following his death Sutton Police has issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward with any information they may have surrounding the crash.

The incident is being investigated by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Merton Traffic Garage.

Detective Sergeant John Hartfree said: "The road is a busy road and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information to contact us."

Next of kin have been informed although a formal identification has yet to have taken place with a post mortem examination scheduled in due course.

Sutton Police said the driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and was not arrested. He is currently is assisting detectives with their investigation.
