Comic legend, and winner of this year's Funniest Joke at the Fringe award, Tim Vine took to Twitter to call on Sutton Borough Council to curb its theatre culling plans.
Sutton Council published papers for its September 4 meeting of its Environment and Neighbourhood Committee that revealed it was considering closing The Charles Cryer Theatre and workshop in Carshalton, The Secombe Theatre, Sutton and Wallington Public Hall.

It has now put the future of the borough's culture hubs up for consultation as it looks to poll opinion as it seeks to make £40 million worth of cuts over the next five years.
Comedian Tim Vine became the first person to win the joke award twice since it launched in 2009 with 'I've decided to sell my Hoover...well, it was only collecting dust'. Now he appears to have added community campaigner to his repertoire after he took to Twitter on Sunday September 14.
