Mitcham sailor Nick Thompson may have won bronze for GB at the ISAF World Championships, but he is still disappointed.

The 28-year-old took third place in the Laser class at the regatta in Santander, Spain, last week.

However, having won two silvers and a bronze from previous World meetings, Thompson, pictured, was hoping to strike gold this time round.

Going into the final 10-boat medal race, he was level pegging with Australian Tom Burton, however, the title was eventually won by Nicolas Heiner from Holland.

Thompson, who won silver in 2010 and 2011, and bronze in 2009, said: “If I am honest I am a little bit disappointed.

“It was my chance to try and go one better than I have done previously.

“Obviously it is good to get a medal, but at the moment it is mixed feelings for sure.”

He added: “It has been a tricky event. I think it has been one of the most challenging events I have done in a while, it will be pretty similar to Rio in that respect as we have seen a bit of everything.

“It has been a real mixed bag and it is good to have come away with a medal in those varied conditions.

“I have shown that I do not have many weaknesses now which is rewarding.

“I will now try and work on a few of the smaller areas and try and do better next year.”
