A Sutton-based wrestler has thrown in his hat into the ring, and will compete to win a £1m contract with TNA Wrestling.

Scorpion Bill Duffy, who lives in Carshalton Road, has auditioned for Challenge TV’s TNA British Boot Camp 2.

The X-factor style wrestling show will feature competitors from all over the country, battling to win a contract with the US-based promotions firm.

Mr Duffy, who has been grappling on the local circuit for 11 years, was inspired to enter the tournament by his children.

He said: "My kids love what I do and come to all my different events up and down the country.

"I sat down with them one day and told them about this show and they said I had to do it.

"They said that if I did it they would be proud of me. After that I knew I had to go for it."

Mr Duffy, who has an eight year-old daughter and 11 year-old son, has been a wrestling fanatic since he was five years old, idolising the likes of Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, and Bret Hart.

These days the 32-year-old labourer is a bigger fan of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), with his sights set on becoming one of their biggest stars.

He continued: "The makers of TNA British Boot Camp sent an email round to the British wrestling community, inviting them to take part in the show.

"When my application was accepted I was absolutely over the moon, it was a real potent mix of joyfulness and fear.

"WWE is perhaps the most famous promotions firm in the world, but I think TNA is on a level with it, the talent is just as good."
