A car crashed with a cyclist metres away from where a fatal crash killed a much-loved mother and son three months ago.

Yesterday, Sarah Holmes, who lives on Banstead Road, Ewell, said the emergency services were in attendance on the street, where she thought two cars had crashed.

She lives opposite to where the incident occurred, "two or three doors down" from where the crash happened which killed Kai Arnold, 11, and his mother Nicola Morris, 29, on a bend in the road, on July 5.

Ms Holmes said she did not believe anyone was seriously injured in the latest crash.

She said: "There were two cars. One coming from Banstead crashed into another coming from Ewell East station and lost control and was going fast around the bend."

Ms Holmes said the car which lost control hit some bollards and spun round in the road.

But, today, a spokesman for the South East Coast Ambulance Service, confirmed that the incident involved a car and a cyclist and that they were called to reports of the crash at 5.15pm.

He said the female cyclist had head injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to St Helier hospital.

Ms Holmes said she believes this is yet more evidence that speed bumps must be installed on the road.

"We have them at the other end of Banstead Road, which comes under Sutton, but not at our end where we’ve now had two crashes," she added.
