Artist John Peter Cutts has created a commemorative oil painting from a 64-year-old photograph taken of the Air Cadet’s Sutton and Cheam Squadron and is hoping readers might recognise themselves.

The painting "A fine body of men" was created using oil on canvas and depicts the then 219 Sutton and Cheam Squadron at the Royal Air Force Wynton who had posed for a photograph at an Air Training Corps annual camp in 1950.

The painter spent five and a half years at the 219 Squadron and in his painting, featuring a young John when he was 14 years old.

The painting has now been donated to the Sutton and Cheam Air Training Corp, presently run by Shaun Whitehead, and was exhibited in the Mall Galleries earlier this year at the Guild of Aviation.

Do you recognise anybody from this picture? Perhaps a relative has mentioned being a part of the Sutton & Cheam Air Training Corp or you were a member yourself? If you manage to spot yourself or anyone you know in the painting, email us on newsdesk@suttonguardian.co.uk
