The Hackbridge junction lay out 'isn't bad' according to a new Facebook group set up this week.

Titled "I think the new road layout at Hackbridge corner isn't that bad" the page has been set up as a reaction to the 'negative publicity' surrounding the £1.4 million project.

The description of the group posted by the site's creator Andrew Sargant reads: "The new road layout has been getting some vociferous, negative comments without much outlet for any positive or indifferent opinion.

"This group aims to provide that outlet.

"So if you disagree with statements such as 'it's an accident waiting to happen', 'if someone is killed it will be the council's fault' and 'some black and white paint would make it much better' then join this group."

Your Local Guardian:

"Let's give change a chance."

The site, created on Monday, contains links to Sutton Council's Heart of Hackbridge website as well as a YouTube video showing the timelapse of the junction's transformation.

It had 26 members at the time of writing.

Mr Sargant, 34, who lives in Helios Road in Sutton told the Sutton Guardian he had no ties with the ruling Liberal Democrat group, either as an activist or voter nor did he have a 'political axe to grind'.

He said: "We want to provide a platform for people that have an opinion other than outright opposition.

"If you do try to put your head above the parapet you get shot down, which is already my experience with this group."

He said the project was far from perfect but that sensible debate was needed.

Mr Sargant added: "I am concerned about vulnerable people not being able to access it and using it.

"There is work to be done there. We are all part of a community.

"Let's have an open discussion and try to find a solution."
