A concerned daughter has taken to social media to hunt down an engraved Rolex watch, a charm bracelet and a sapphire and diamond ring which were among the precious items stolen by thieves.

Emma Swinton’s parent’s home in Cheam was broken into while they were on holiday to celebrate her father’s 70th birthday last weekend.

The couple were dealt a double blow because carpets and flooring were destroyed by bleach poured all over the house to erase fingerprints.

Tens of thousands of pounds worth of ‘irreplaceable’ family heirlooms were taken by burglars while they were on holiday.

Miss Swinton is hoping the power of social media will help return the jewellery to its rightful owners.

Miss Swinton said: “They have huge sentimental value.

“The charm bracelet was bought for my mum by her parents and they bought her a charm for it every year.

“They are in a state of shock at the moment.

“If your television gets stolen you can buy a new one, but these are completely irreplaceable.”

Nothing else was taken in the burglary at the home in Beresford Road, Cheam.

An envelope containing about £15 in cash for the window cleaner lay untouched on the table, Miss Swinton said.

Among the items taken was a distinctive Rolex watch belonging to Miss Swinton’s grandfather. The engraving reads ‘H.F. From W.W.C & Co. May 1929.'

The rings of sapphire and diamond and another with three diamonds were her grandmother and great-grandmother’s engagement rings.

She said they were kept locked away and the burglars must have stumbled across them by accident when searching the upstairs of the house.

Flooring in the upstairs will have to be replaced after it was stained with bleach and other household cleaning products in an apparent attempt at erasing evidence.

A police spokesman said: “An address was burgled in Beresford Road between Monday, October 6 and Saturday, October 11 after entry had been gained via a ground floor window whilst the owner was away on holiday.

“Various items of jewellery were stolen including a ring, bracelet, necklace and watch.

“We ask residents to secure their properties and to remain vigilant especially as the nights get darker earlier.”
