A Massachusetts teenager has admitted attempting to murder a young woman he stabbed in her own home on Good Friday.

US newspapers have reported he bought a plane ticket from Boston to London and booked a room at a hotel in Epsom, where he checked in on April 17, the day before the attack.

Shane Coffey, 19, from Lincoln Street, Weymouth, in Boston, appeared at Guildford Crown Court on Wednesday.

The charges he answered to relate to the stabbing of Farah Dowlut and her brother Mohammed Dowlut in their home in Hook Road, Epsom, at 4.30am on Friday, April 18.

Coffey pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of Farah Dowlut and to wounding Mohammed Dowlut with intent.

He denied attempting to murder of Mohammed Dowlut and also denied aggravated burglary.

Following the attack, Surrey Police asked their US colleagues to search Coffey’s home.

They recovered an Xbox games console, games, computer equipment and other items.

According to information filed by US police in Quincy District Court, Coffey is believed to have met the woman on an online gaming site.

Coffey will be sentenced at Guildford Crown Court next month.
