The funeral of a "sociable and happy" woman who was well-known in the community will be held on Friday.

Maureen Roberts, 72, died on October 19 in Epsom Hospital.

Born in Shanghai, China, she moved to England aged 12 years and lived in Epsom for 48 years.

Her friend Mary Martinez said: "She was very well known and respected by everyone who knew her.

"Maureen had a very witty sense of humour, a big smile for everyone she met and a fantastic memory for people, time and places.

"Maureen will be sadly missed by her extensive family, friends and everyone who had cared for her over a long period of time."

Ms Roberts lived at The Manor Hospital and then in Ethel Bailey Close, Epsom, for many years where she played an important part in everyday life and was known by everyone for her "sociable and happy disposition", Ms Martinez added.

Ms Roberts moved into Casa Maria Supported Living Service, on The Wells Estate, in Epsom, in June 2008.

"She settled well into her local community with a very determined attitude to live life to its full potential and be happy. "Prior to her death, Maureen had been on a week’s holiday to the South of Spain," said Ms Martinez.

Ms Roberts was an active member of Christchurch, Epsom Common, and always looked forward to social and church events. She also attended The Wells Centre where she participated in various activities.

A cremation will be held on October 31 at 9.30am at Randall’s Park Crematorium, Leatherhead, followed by a gathering at the Woodlands Parks Hotel, in Cobham, both of which people are welcome to attend.
