The 7th Epsom Scouts shooting squad proved they are as sharp-eyed as ever after returning from the National Scout Rifle Championships at Bisley with six medals.

James Miller led the way with individual gold in the 10m pistol event, while Emma O’Neill won individual bronze in the knock-out event.

Nicholas Woolgar, Joshua Gall, Lucy Hunnable and Stephanie Williams each won bronze in the team pistol event.

Miller’s gold medal was especially hard fought, having to shoot over two different distances in the first round before competing in an Olympic style final.

He held his nerve in front of a large crowd and defeated the other seven finalists, who were all many years older than the 14-year-old.

In the other three team events, Epsom finished with two fifth spots and an eighth from almost 100 teams.

Across the rest of the squad there were several new personal best scores and a number of top-10 finishes.

The squad was Jay Arnold, Nathan Baptiste, Matthew Bull, Joshua Gall, Kieran Gall, Jasper Hill-Bennett, Lucy Hunnable, James Miller, Emma O’Neill, Matthew O’Neill, Jake Pagden, Stephanie Williams and Nicholas Woolgar.
