Dementia training is to be rolled out to all front line Sutton Council staff.
This follows a training day called Dementia Friends, attended by more than 20 councillors on Monday October 20, that has been designed to change the way people think about the condition.
Council leader Ruth Dombey said: "Dementia is such a terrible disease that unfortunately affects many people, either personally or through a family member or friend.
"We felt we could make a difference in Sutton by learning more about the condition and how someone with Dementia may perceive different situations."
Courses and workshops for council employees have been scheduled with the first session taking place on December 3.
Reena Barai, dementia champion at Dementia Friends said it was "really superb" that Sutton Council was taking practical steps to learn more about the condition.
She said: "By learning that little bit more about what it might be like to live with dementia Sutton Council will be better placed to help and support people with the condition. It demonstrates their ongoing commitment to making their business more dementia-friendly."
