Britain experienced its hottest Halloween on record and the people of Sutton were making the most of it.

At a high of 19.3 degrees in Sutton yesterday, Vassen Nega, 39, of Collingwood Road and his daughter Tia came to Manor Park to embrace the fresh air.

Mr Nega said: “If Tia is a good girl, we will go trick or treating tonight.”

Father and daughter, John Brosnan, 56 and Veronica, five, of St Barnabas Road opted out of a trip to McDonalds and enjoyed an ice lolly in the park instead.

Mr Brosnan said: “The park was just so nice that we stayed here.”

However, Veronica was quick to chip in and said: “But we’ll still go after the park.”

Nicky Barnett, 45, and her friend, Sarah Carr, 44, both from Banstead, spent the afternoon in Manor Park with their families.

Ms Carr said: “We wanted to go bowling, but it was shut so we came to the park instead.”

Ms Barnett then added: “It’s a good thing really, because it is such a beautiful day and it’s lovely to get some fresh air.”

Free runners also used Manor Park as their training ground, performing back flips and doing handstands against the trees, making the most of the warm weather before the cold winter approaches.
