Sutton’s twinkled-toed Strictly Come Dancing star Joanne Clifton was all smiles in the town centre yesterday, despite being voted off the show the night before.

Ms Clifton was in the St Nicholas Centre in Sutton High Street throughout the afternoon, signing autographs and chatting with the public.

The Lincolnshire-born dancer exited the show on Saturday night, after falling short in a dance-off against Alison Hammond and partner Aljaz Skorjanec.

The former World Professional Ballroom Showdance champion was paired up with BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills.

Speaking to the Sutton Guardian prior to this week’s show, Ms Clifton said: "Scott is the greatest student.

"He listens to everything, and will have a go at anything, but on the show we have always been in the bottom two.

"We need the public to vote for us.

"In our practice sessions he is actually very good, but I think in the show he succumbs to nerves.

Ms Clifton moved to Sutton from Bologna, Italy, in August.

Strictly Come Dancing takes a celebrity and partners them up with an established dancer, who takes them through the motions in preparation for a Saturday night performance.

Each week the public phone in and vote for their favourite act.

The two teams with the least votes then have a dance-off, with the judges deciding who stays and who goes.
