Police have arrested a man in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old girl in Carshalton.

The 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape on Monday.

He was taken to a south London police station and bailed yesterday, to return at a date in mid-December.

The rape took place at about 8.30pm on Saturday within the playground area at Grove Park.

The victim was taken to a Haven where she is being provided with the support of specially trained staff.

The suspect, who was not known to the victim, is described as a black man, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, of broad build and approximately 5ft 10inches.

He was described as wearing a black hooded jacket and shorts.

Local police have increased neighbourhood patrols in the vicinity and these will continue while the incident is investigated.
