The father of a missing boy, not seen since 1988, has written and performed a song as part of a fundraising campaign for charity Missing People.

Lee Boxell was 15 when he went missing and since then his family has been in regular contact with the charity.

To show his gratitude Lee's father has written lyrics to song I Miss You, which has been made into a national 'Home for Christmas' campaign to raise £150,000 for the charity.

Peter Boxell, 68, of Charter Place in Cheam was joined by The Missing People Choir for the first public performance of the piece at a packed St Martin's in the Field on Monday, where the guests included Kate McCann and Sir Trevor McDonald.

Mr Boxell said: "It was so emotional when I performed the song.

"I recited it as a poem before so people would know the words.

"When I'm singing, I'm singing to my son. It's very emotional, it brought a lot of people to tears.

"Even Kate McCann was crying."

The song will now feature in a two and a half minute video to be aired on television over the holiday season.

The video features relatives of three missing people who take turns to talk about the pain of having a missing loved one at this time of year.

It is backed by long-time supporter and patron of the charity Missing People, Stephen Fry, who has voiced the ad.

Mr Fry said: "Missing is an issue that cuts across cultural boundaries, class, race and age.

"I am delighted to be able to lend not only my voice but also my full support to this appeal by CI for the charity Missing People. Please follow #homeforchristmas to get involved, make a donation and help reunite families this Christmas."

Lyrics

I Miss You

In my dreams, I see your face,
Walk with you, hold you safe.
Close my eyes, I think of you,
Until the day I see you again.
I never thought, I’d be without you,
I’d always thought, you’d be here safe with me.
I’m so empty and silent without you.
Where are you now?
Are you safe and well?
May be tomorrow I’ll wake up to find you.
I miss you.
