An intrepid artist ventured to Switzerland to trace a journey made by a Surrey couple in the mid 1930s.

Photographer David Killeen made the trip after buying the photo album on ebay.

A piece of paper in the back of the book shows it was originally purchased from Callivers Chemist in Wallington

It is unclear where in the town the shop was based.

The selection of holiday photos tell the story of the couple’s trip to Europe in 1935.

The pictures show they visited the Rhone Glacier in the Swiss Alps, the Polytechnic Chalets in Lucerne in Switzerland, and St Margarenthen in Austria.

Back in 2010, Mr Kiilleen visited the same places in the images to take up to date photographs.

He is hoping to exhibit the series in Surrey in the coming months.

He said: "As an artist I have retraced their steps and photographed exactly the same sites that feature in their album from the Swiss Alps to the towns and cities within the country.

"Information about the couple is small with only the possible indication that the man’s name is Douglas.

"Other aspects of the couple is that they lived in a large manor house in the county of Surrey until fairly recently.

"The album was sold as part of a clear out of the manor between 2006/7 - 2009.

"The album itself was purchased from a chemist in the town of Wallington with label on the back page for Callivers Chemist."

A map included in the album has a pencil marking showing the couple’s journey through Switzerland.

The images show the couple also passed through Austria and Germany.
