Meals on Wheels were joined by Sutton Mayor Arthur Hookway on Christmas Day, to deliver dinners to some of the borough’s most needy people.

The council-run service dishes out meals to elderly and disabled people who are unable to cook for themselves.

Coun Hookway joined the team at 11am, and dropped off dinners at 17 homes.

On a normal day Meals on Wheels serve roughly 250 people.

Once they had finished the round the mayor visited St Patrick's Church in Wallington, where church volunteers from across Sutton plated up meals for those who would otherwise spend Christmas Day alone.

The get-together was attended by about 100 people from across the borough, who also enjoyed games and entertainment.
