Two people were nearly run over during a police chase through Sutton town centre as a motorist drove the wrong way around the one-way-system.
Officers were assisted by a Met Police helicopter in the pursuit through Carshalton, Sutton and Cheam, at about 12.09pm Friday.
The motorist joined the one-way-system outside the Post Office in Grove Road heading against the traffic, before turning right towards Sutton station.
Police reported two people were nearly knocked down at the corner of Grove Road and the High Street.
The driver ran off after abandoning the car in Worcester Road, but was caught by officers from Sutton’s Safer Parks team and Merton.
The 36-year-old was arrested for failing to stop, dangerous driving, possession of Class A drugs, possession of a taser, and for being wanted on warrant.
He was questioned at a South London police station after the chase on Friday, January 2.
More to follow.
