A man has appeared in court following a police chase through Sutton town centre which saw a car drive around the one-way system the wrong way.
Lewis Vivian appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with four counts of stealing petrol without payment, and one charge of failing to stop after an accident.
The 47-year-old also faces another charge for driving dangerously, and for driving without insurance.
A chase took place at roughly 12.09pm on Friday, January 2, with officers supported by a Met Police helicopter pursuing a motorist through Carshalton, Sutton and Cheam.
Vivian, from Silver Close in Tadworth, will next appear at Croydon Crown Court on January 19.
