Train users in south west London will face longer journey times for a third weekend due to track closures in the Wimbledon area.

Most South West Trains routes are affected today (January 17) and tomorrow, January 18, with rail replacement buses operating instead of trains.

All routes into Wimbledon are replaced by buses for part of or the entire journey, with travel times extended by up to 60 minutes.

Stopping trains between Weybridge and Virginia Water are also replaced by buses today and there is no Thameslink service from Wimbledon to Sutton.

The works are taking place on the line between Raynes Park, Wimbledon Chase and Wimbledon.

Services from Clapham Junction to Surbiton, Kingston and Chessington South are replaced by buses all weekend, while services from all stations in Elmbridge are served by buses on Sundays until the mid-afternoon.

Buses will also replace trains from Kingston to Twickenham on Sundays, but trains will call between Strawberry Hill and Twickenham.

The South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance is undertaking a £7m track maintenance programme in the Wimbledon area, with 12 sets of points being replaced at the west of Wimbledon station.

South West Trains said the work will improve reliability and punctuality of trains in this part of their route.

Line closures in the Wimbledon area also take place on the weekends of January 24 and 25, January 31 and February 1 and on Sunday, February 15.
