Students, staff and a school chef who teamed up to run a winter warming soup kitchen raised £200 for a homeless charity on Friday.

Glyn School, in The Kingsway, Epsom, raised the funds for St Mungo’s Broadway, which works to rebuild the lives of homeless people, with the belief that people can and do recover from the issues that create homelessness.

Students from three school houses worked with teaching and catering staff at break, lunch and after school to serve tomato and red pepper and Thai curry soups for £1 per cup.

Staff and students were given the option to pre-order their choice of soup and have it delivered or collect it in person.

School chef Barny Cross, of Cucina Restaurants, a school caterer which puts trained chefs into school kitchens, said: "We wanted to raise awareness of the issues and challenges faced by the homeless, as well as raise some significant funds to donate to this worthy charity."
