Students hosted a reunion tea party for children with special needs who they met during a week’s residential break for them at the school last year.

St John’s School, in Epsom Road, Leatherhead, organised the event last month for the children who attended the 2014 St John’s School Community Holiday last summer, to reminisce and get reacquainted before this year’s holiday which will take place in August.

The Community Holiday is a week’s residential break for children with special needs, aged between 10 and 16, which takes place annually at the independent school.

Students take the children on day trips, and treat them to drama, music and games during the week which aims to provide respite to their families.

A group of 15 holidaymakers came back to St John’s for the tea, where they enjoyed cupcake decorating and a sing-along, party bags, t-shirts and a CD featuring a photo slideshow of holiday memories.

Livvy Copeman, an upper sixth student who was one of the event’s main organisers, said: "It was phenomenal.

I absolutely loved having the children back for a catch up and it was great to see so many of them enjoying the tea.

"The sing-along in particular brought back so many memories - I can’t wait to capture more this summer when we run the holiday again."
