The council is asking for residents of all ages to complete a survey about the homes they see themselves living in as they get older.

The last census, in 2011, recorded that 17 per cent of Epsom and Ewell’s population was of retirement age - nearly 12,000 of its residents, a figure which is set to increase for at least the next 20 years.

Epsom Council is conducting an older residents’ accommodation needs survey as part of its approach to providing accommodation and support of residents, in line with their needs and aspirations, as they get older.

Although Epsom Council does not have its own housing stock, it works closely with housing providers.

"It said the survey will enable the council to measure the long-term demands on different types of accommodation and related support services.

Councillor Jean Steer, chairman of the council’s social committee, urged residents to take part in the survey.

She said: "We are receiving input directly from a number of agencies and we want to include the views of as many residents as possible - irrespective of their current age and needs - this will help the council hone its strategy and ensure councillors can make decisions based on the experience and opinions of residents."
