Young bookworms attempted to set a new world record on Friday when they brought in books to swap with each other.
Students from the City of London Freemen’s School, in Ashtead Park, were among those from 80 schools across the country taking part in the Guinness World Record attempt for the most books exchanged in eight hours at multiple venues.
The current record is 2,868.
A school spokeswoman said: "The Guinness Wold Record book is so well-known and loved and there's something about taking part in a record-breaking attempt that pulls people in, so we had lots of participants.
"It has been a great opportunity for us to promote the school library and reading.
"The event was organised in celebration of National Libraries Day on Saturday."
It will take up to 12 weeks for the school to find out if the record attempt was successful.
