The crushed shell of a car has been left abandoned at a Belmont junction, with the back of the vehicle almost completely destroyed.

Its windscreen appears to have been smashed with concrete blocks, and windows on the passenger and driver side have been knocked out entirely.

The Vauxhall seems to have been involved in a collision at the junction of Brighton Road and Basinghall Gardens.

Steve Gillett from Banstead, who took the photos, spotted the wreckage at 1am on Friday, Feburary 13.

He said: “I was walking back from Sutton station, and I saw this car. It looked really battered up and it was clear it had been in a nasty collision.

“The blocks on the bonnet looked like someone had dumped them on there.

“Someone must have been injured, but there was no sign emergency services had been there.”
