Police have launched an appeal for information following a suspected arson attack on Valentine’s Day.

Surrey Police said it was called to East Street, Epsom, at 3.20pm, on Saturday, February 14, after reports of smoke coming from a building on the road where Surrey Fire and Rescue Service were already in attendance.

The police said the fire is believed to be "of suspicious origin".

An Epsom fireman said on Monday that the fire service had been called to Acer House, in East Street, to tackle a rubbish fire at the side of the building.

A police spokesman said: "If you were in the area of East Street just before 3pm or until 3.20pm and saw anything suspicious I would urge you to call us immediately.

"No matter how insignificant you think it might be, what you saw could be vital to our investigation."

A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of arson and has been released on bail until March 7.
