A dedicated fundraiser is to cycle nearly 300 miles from London to Paris to raise money for the fight against heart disease.

Shaun Young, 40, from West Ewell, was inspired to undertake the challenge, in aid of the British Heart Foundation, after his father-in-law suffered a heart attack in 2009.

Although he made a speedy recovery, another attack followed last year.

The bike ride will start on April 22 and last four days.

Mr Young said: "On my journey I’m learning so much about different pacemakers and the new tests for heart disease for women and people have been so generous in donating and pledging sponsorship money."

He has so far raised £1,600 - £100 over his target - by completing a number of charity events including cycling up Box Hill while dressed in his wife’s onesie, participating in a 5k family superhero fancy dress walk through Epsom High Street, running a Scalextric challenge stall at West Ewell Infant School, running an office pool tournament, organising a charity raffle and dressing as Olaf from the film Frozen at Epsom’s Christmas lights switch-on.

For his London to Paris Challenge, Mr Young said that Sir Martin Sorrell, the founder and chief executive officer of advertising and marketing company WPP, has pledged to donate £1 for every mile completed.

Mr Young works for Kantar, in Epsom, an arm of WPP, whose own CEO has already donated £100.
