Motorists had their vehicles seized by police in a crackdown on uninsured and unlicensed drivers.

Four people were each given a £300 fine, six points on their licence, and will pay additional costs to recover their vehicles from a police pound.

One person was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

A further two motorists were each issued a £100 fine, after one of them hadn’t had an MOT, and the other failed to correctly display their number plate.

Officers stopped more than 50 vehicles in the operation, which involved the use of roadside checkpoints in Brighton Road, Belmont, and the A217 at the Brighton Road roundabout where it meets Belmont Rise.

The checks were carried out on Thursday, March 5.
