Postage stamps from Hungary, Mali and Madagascar, a series of sepia tinted photographs and business cards have been recovered by supermarket workers, sparking a spot of amateur sleuthing.

Staff at Sainsbury’s North Cheam have spent the past couple of weeks trying to track down the owner of the unusual bundle of goods, found on the shop floor.

Clues include an address, in Whyteleafe just south of Croydon carrying the name Mr Coles and a date of October 12, a selection of stamps, some British some foreign, two Visconti Leather business cards and a selection of photographs.

All but one set appear to have been taken many years ago, while there are two passport style more recent photographs of an elderly gentleman.

Cathy Rodgers, who works in Human Resources at the branch said: "It was dropped on the floor by a customer. It has been here for the last couple of weeks and we have been trying to do a bit of a Miss Marple and track down the owner.

"I have googled the address, I know someone who lives down that way, I have tried everything I can think of, and so now I was hoping through the Sutton Guardian we could find out who it belongs to."

One sepia photograph of a man who appears to be in his 20s is signed on the reverse - To Mum Dad & Eric, with love Harry xxxx. Others appear to show the same man in army uniform taken in foreign countries.
