Kingston Royals head coach Damien Bryan says the future looks bright for the club after a successful Surrey Championships.

The Kingston and New Malden-based club claimed 45 medals to finish fifth in the medals table and third on points, meaning they retained the Tinlin Trophy.

Dylan Conway – who won 12 medals in total – and Yasmine Hamerlaine each claimed three gold medals to account for half the club’s golden haul as they were the stand out performers.

But Bryan, who took over as head coach before Christmas, hailed the efforts of those who did not qualify for the individual events, but helped deliver two bronze medal winning relay performances.

And he expects more to come from the squad in the coming months as many of the club’s young stars bid to set qualifying times for the national championships in July.

“As head coach I am pleased with our Surrey results,” he said.

“We were also able to bring in 15 swimmers to our relay teams who had not qualified in an individual event this year and they performed fabulously achieving some great personal bests in what was an exciting day of relays for the team.

“We were unfortunate to miss out on more medals, taking five fourth place finishes on the day.”

He added: “Swimmers can only qualify for the national championships with times set between March and May.

“And after some positive performances at the Surrey championships we have a number of swimmers setting their sights on qualifying for the nationals.”

Royals athletes next head to the Bournemouth Open later this month and the Crawley Open on April 18 as they gear up for the London Regional Championships in May.
