Croydon Harriers' high jumpers took the plaudits in the club's 17-medal haul at the Surrey Indoor Championships last weekend, writes Mike Fleet.

Royal Russell student Tsidi Dagadu comfortably took the title in his first year as an U20.

With narrow failures at a near best of 1.95m, his previous success clearance at 1.90m saw him surpass the opposition by 10cms.

U17 Ned Quiney, another first year in his age group, produced a fine series for a win by 5cm at 1.70m to equal his outdoor best.

He also finished sixth in the long jump at 5.53m.

On Saturday, a shoeless Jordan Staples virtually jumped out of his socks, revealing rare talent to win the U15 event at 1.60m.

He made it a golden double the next day when he stormed ahead in the 60m to win in 7.56 seconds, with fellow Harriers Kristian Wright and Joe Young third and fourth in 7.77 and 7.85.

Omar Dixon set a Championship best performance of 6.30m to claim a U17 long jump victory, and ran a strong 7.02 for silver in the 60m.

The club's sprinting strength was further proved by six more medal-winning runs.

The best of these was Twinnelle Hopeson's gold, won in a highly competitive final.

It was clear nobody would pass the impressive Croydon athlete as she drove determinedly for the line.

The excellent time of 7.69 ranks her 31st in the overall UK women's rankings.

Young Ethan Shakespeare-Richards was in a class of his own in the U13 60m finishing well clear in 8.25.

U20 Jamel Beckford rounded off the club's golden tally in the 60m hurdles which he won in 8.25.
