Croydon FC 1
Erith Town 0

Croydon edged past Erith Town to retake their place at the head of the pack chasing runaway Kent League leaders Whitstable Town.

The Trams dropped to third after last week's washout at a water-logged Tunbridge Wells, but Saturday's win puts them back on course.

Erith are not having the best of seasons but they tend not to lose too heavily and, although the Trams have now done the double over them, both wins have been tight 1-0 victories.

The visitors had the better of the first 20 minutes without really threatening.

When Croydon did get into the game they got an immediate result, scoring the winning goal - or rather having it scored for them.

It was a well-worked move, with Marc Whiteman threading the ball down the line for Neil John to put in a telling cross.

Nick Tornaritis would have certainly headed John's ball into the net but, Scott Edwards, in trying desperately to clear, only succeeded in putting the ball past his own keeper, Nick Wilson.

Croydon picked up their game from then on and, with Erith looking increasingly ragged, began to dominate the game.

But all their efforts to score were thwarted by man-of-the-match Wil-son in the visitor's goal.
