I was surprised and not a little alarmed to read your article on the future of Nonsuch Mansion.

Your article will be read with some dismay by all those - including myself - who attended the Surrey County Council meeting on 27 February. Surrey County council did, as your article suggests, agree to remove the word disposal' from the recommendations which it agreed. But this is far from the whole story.

Our protest did force the County Council to modify their plans, but Surrey County councillors still chose to press ahead with plans for a Master Plan' for the park and mansion. Despite warm words regarding the importance of consultation, the County Council seems determined to continue its unnecessary intervention in matters regarding the park and mansion.

It is clear to me that we are not out of the woods yet. We must remain vigilant. We must continue to express our opposition to plans which are not made in conjunction with local people and Sutton and Epsom Councils. I would encourage anyone who uses or otherwise values the park to visit www.savenonsuch.org.uk and sign the petition.
