A motorist who expressed his fury at being handed a parking ticket by deliberately ramming his van in to a CCTV car has been handed an eight month suspended jail sentence.

Wayne John Lione, 43, returned to his Peugeot Partner van, parked on the pathway in Banstead Road near the junction with Staplehurst Road on June 4 last year.

According to Sutton police, Lione then drove to the parking officers who were sitting in their car nearby. They explained their reason for issuing the ticket.

A spokesman for Sutton police said: "Lione became aggressive and swore at them.

"Worried for their safety, the enforcement officers drove off but found Lione was following them in his van overtaking other vehicles to catch up.

"When the vehicles reached The Downsway, the CCTV car slowed down and Lione moved to overtake.

"But instead of driving past, he swerved his van towards the CCTV car hitting it and causing more than £2,100 damage."

Details of what happened next are not clear. The officers believe their car may have flipped over, both were injured - one suffering shoulder displacement, the other head and back pain.

Lione, of St James Road, Carshalton, was before Croydon Crown Court on Friday, March 20.

He was sentenced to eight months imprisonment suspended for one year and disqualified from driving for a year after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.

He was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work and to pay a victim surcharge of £100.
