Croydon Ladies 5
Purley Walcountians 1
Croydon's revival continued with a stomping win over Purley Walcountians on Saturday.
Croydon used their characteristic press in the first 5 minutes to create a number of opportunities in front of the PW's goalie however the goalie used her large frame to fill the goal.
It was a weaving run from Fiona Loxton at right-half which found Helen Anderson at the top of the D to flick one past the goalie's outstretched hand which set off the flurry of goals.
Anderson took her second shortly after with a one on one with goalie, and to rub salt in the wound she took her third 5 minutes later with an opportunistic attempt 2 yards from the goal line.
An inspired Croydon drew breath at half time and then allowed the home side a little more room on the attack. PW's pressed hard and managed to capture one goal from a cunning deflection behind Croydon's goalie to regain some dignity.
But it was not to be, and Croydon demonstrated strength and panache particularly from Helen Sant at left-back and Lisa Phillips at right-back showing that an attacking move really does start from a defensive tackle.
Wendy Howell gifted Helen Anderson's fourth from a powerful hit just under the halfway line for Anderson to deflect in, and Julie Worthington took Croydon's fifth from a strike just inside the D.
Croydon rise to joint fifth in the table and look to take on the team sharing that spot next week.
