Warlingham 22
Petersfield 7

Surrey champions Warlingham guaranteed themselves a third-placed finish in their first season in London 4 SW with a comprehensive victory against their closest rivals.

In front of more than 150 former Warlingham players, gathered at Hamsey Green for the annual "Golden Oldies" lunch, fly-half Alex Glover, in the opening minute, showed a clean pair of heels to the visitors' defence and sprinted to the try-line to give the hosts a perfect start.

After concerted pressure by the rampant Warlingham pack, Glover's fellow half-back, Ollie Doe, kicked a penalty to give the home side a cushion.

With James Scott and Dan Street taking the hard yards off the visitors and Tom Street grabbing any loose balls, Warlingham looked impressive.

Lock Ky Oliviera was yellow carded for some exuberant driving but Petersfield were unable to take advantage of the depleted Warlingham side.

However, even with Oliviera back on the pitch, some poor midfield tackling from Warlingham, Petersfield's centre burst through for a try in front of the posts, which was easily converted.

A neat passage of interplay between Glover and Tom Street saw the ball slipped to hooker Dan Street who powered through the visitors defence for a try converted by Doe.

After the half time break Petersfield looked more aggressive but they failed to spot Tom Street on the blindside, stealing their ball and driving over, taking the best part of the Petersfield pack with him. Doe converted the score to give Warlingham a well-deserved victory.

Once again Warlingham's side included three teenagers, as John Fisher schoolboys James Agate, Jon Fox and Mike Freeman all acquitted themselves creditably.

"With such a young side overall, we have done very well to consolidate our position in this division this year," playing chairman Peter Upton said.

"With so much good young talent coming through, we will be looking to push on again strongly next season."
