Celebrity fans do not come any bigger than this. Madonna - the most famous pop star on the planet - has just announced that she is a massive aficionado of Pam Ann, Caroline Reid's priceless spoof air-hostess.

The singer enthused last week that Pam Ann "is cruelly funny." That's what I call an endorsement.

Now you have a chance to see what all the fuss is about, as Pam's new show, One World Alliance, is coming to the Fairfield Halls next month.

Here, she will be joined by her One World Alliance partners (all played with rare panache by Caroline): Mona the BA bitch, Valerie from American Airlines and Donna from Easyjet.

Pam is just as popular with real-life airline staff as she is with Madonna and the rest of us.

"This steward ran up to me and handed me a folder full of brilliant jokey material about the job," said Caroline.

"In one section, which I use in my show, a flight attendant says, we like to greet our passengers as though they're personally responsible for the death of Princess Diana. When they ask for a glass of water, we reply, how dare you? You killed our princess! How could you?''"

But what is it that makes her such a hit with the punters? Caroline reckons that in these deeply politically correct times audiences relish the fact that the character abuses them with such gay abandon.

"There is something gloriously un-PC about Pam," observes the comedian.

"Pam's completely unafraid to just go for it. The climate of political correctness has gone way over the top, and audiences have been deprived of performers who will tell it like it is.

"That's why stars such as Simon Cowell and Anne Robinson work so well. Viewers are sick of hearing that everyone's wonderful."
