A woman has been found dead following a fire in a block of flats.
Firefighters from Sutton fire station were called to a flat fire at a six storey building on Brighton Road in the early hours of this morning.
Crews tackling the blaze found the body of an elderly woman in the bedroom of a second floor flat. About a quarter of the flat was left damaged by the fire.
The crews were called out at 3.09am and had the fire under control by 4.16am.
Police were called to the scene just after 3.30am and are treating the death as unexplained while forensic examination takes place and are attempting to trace next of kin. The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
