A 54-year-old man has been given a three month jail term for a string of driving offences, including a hit-and-run, having no insurance and license and refusing to give a blood sample.

Dennis Lawrence, who is understood to live in Coxdean, Epsom Downs, appeared at South East Surrey Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday, April 8.

He was charged with four driving offences plus one charge of criminal damage.

But because of the time he has already spent behind bars before he appeared in court the magistrates deemed that he has already served his sentence.

Lawrence admitted driving a green Volkswagen Golf car, on January 25, on Shortcroft Road, Epsom, without insurance or a licence.

He admitted that, on the same day, he was involved in an accident while driving the car on Rowden Road, Ewell, in which he injured a person, and failed to stop.

Lawrence also admitted failing to give a blood sample after being stopped driving the car in Salfords on the same day.

For each of the offences, he changed his plea from not guilty to guilty.

He was ordered to pay fines of £475, an £80 victim surcharge, costs of £250 and was disqualified from having a driving licence for 36 months.

On the same day in court, Lawrence was given a £75 fine by magistrates after he admitted to damaging a glass panel of the back door of The Faraday pub, in Church Street, Epsom, in November.
